Unexpected Places You Might Find Cards

In the late 1800s and early 1900s, baseball cards were little more than adjunct advertising and promotional pieces. As such, they were treated with little regard. Cards were cast aside with other household junk or used for some alternative purpose. Collections of early baseball cards and memorabilia, therefore, will pop-up in the strangest places. Here are four of our favorites.

In Attics

The most reliable place to discover lost baseball cards is the attic of older homes. The most notable collections ever found have been discovered in attics. Many century-old cards have been discovered in the attic including Christy Mathewson, Sachel Paige, Cy Young, Babe Ruth, and Ty Cobb – just to name a few!

Cookie Tins

Cookie tins have surprisingly been a popular hiding place for baseball card collections. Many cookie tins are sold in garage sales, estate sales, and storage lockers have been found to contain old collections of baseball cards that have been locked away for decades.

Flea Market

Inside the Walls

While in the crawl space, the man’s cell phone fell and slipped through a crack that turned out to be large enough for a cell phone, but smaller than his arm.

Believe it or not, many high-value collections and baseball cards have been found in the walls of old homes! We are not recommending that you immediately purchase a sledgehammer and start demolishing your home – but many home renovation projects have revealed a treasure trove of baseball cards hidden in the walls, especially in older homes!e
